Eversource: A case study in transmission line design

As the populations and needs of communities grow, the need for more power grows as well. In the New Hampshire Seacoast region, Eversource worked over the course of several years to plan and build a new thirteen-mile-long transmission line that had to go through sensitive environmental areas, historic landmarks, scenic routes, and both residential and commercial zones, including a university.

Despite having to deal with every kind of transmission line design fathomable, with clear communication, careful planning, and a lot of hard work, the project was successfully completed in 2020.

Eversource managed to navigate all the challenges that come with a complicated project like this by listening to communities and regulatory officials and focusing on safety and reliability. This huge undertaking can be looked to as a model for making utilities work with and around existing infrastructure and valuable natural lands.
